About Nicholette Jean

Photography is about telling a story

in every photograph.

Nicholette captures the essence of

life's most precious moments.

She creates images that are honest and spontaneous,

focusing on the beauty of reality.

Nicholette Jean photographs exclusively on-location, using only all natural light. Each session is completely customized to bring out the unique qualities of you and your family. Photographing at clients' homes, favorite parks and playgrounds, Nicholette encourages her subjects to freely frolic and play. Her approach to portrait photography is simple: following the child's lead while providing subtle direction to capture the most natural moments that showcase your child's essence. Sessions are never rushed allowing for ample time to document the

in-between moments and to capture your child's most precious spirit.

I made my first B&W print, in a darkroom, in 2004 and have been pursuing my fine art career ever since. I specialize in printing processes that began in the 1860's as well as Polaroid Emulsion Transfers. I make most of my fine art photographs with a 35mm camera but I absolutely adore my medium format Mamiya 645. I also LOVE to use vintage cameras to create my art, such as the Polaroid Land Camera (103), which was produced between 1965 and 1967.

I have traveled throughout Europe and Mexico pursuing my passion for photography. Through my travels, I have learned that it is through the observation and engagement with other cultures that we gain a deeper understanding of our own culture and ourselves. My fine art work has been published and exhibited locally and internationally.

I opened a portrait business in 2007 to supplement my need to create fine art. In the beginning it was about making a living off of what I loved to do (anything with a camera in hand) and funneling any excess into materials for creating artwork. I have found that I really love working with people and creating images that will be cherished for a lifetime. Portraiture has allowed me to share my unique vision with people in a very personal way. I love to capture the inherent beauty in reality.

Education

I have studied Fine Art and Photography at the University of Nevada, Reno, Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy, and Universidad Iberoamericano in Puebla, Mexico. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Photography from the University of Nevada, Reno.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.

What you have caught on film is captured forever...

it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

~Aaron Siskind
